“Beauty and the Beast”

November 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2015

“Be our guest” for Lubbock Moonlight Musicals’ newest Moonlight Broadway production, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast!  Featuring music from the immortal Disney film, as well as many new songs, Beauty and the Beast tells a “tale as old as time” of young provincial woman, Belle, and her search to find the love she has only glimpsed amongst pages of her beloved books.  Similarly searching, though for vastly different reasons, a spell-bound young prince, now only known as the Beast, must learn the true meanings of love before time runs out and the last petal falls.  After more than 5,000 performances on Broadway, vast numbers of international productions, and many tours; Lubbock Moonlight Musicals is very proud to locally produce a professional, Moonlight Broadway presentation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast!

Lubbock Moonlight Musicals is very pleased to produce the upcoming Moonlight Broadway presentation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.  Following previous Moonlight Broadway productions of Les Misérables in November 2013, CATS in November 2014, and Mary Poppins in May of 2015; Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will enchant audiences of all ages.

Performances are set for November 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2015 in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre beginning at 7:30 pm on Thursday – Saturday evenings, and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Once again, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals will coordinate this production to coincide with the Junior League of Lubbock’s annual Holiday Happening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Lubbock Moonlight Musicals founder and General Director, Gerald Dolter, released the following statement:  “After such successful productions of Les Mis and CATS, we, at Lubbock Moonlight Musicals, decided to expand our Moonlight Broadway series to two productions each year- with hopes of further expanding that number in the future.  Our production of Mary Poppins this May comprised the first half of the 2015 series, and now Beauty and the Beast will complete it.  While Mary Poppins is commonly considered a children’s show, the material and talent on stage in our production was phenomenal and I had 60+ year-old men stop me after our performances this spring and say, “Gerald, I have seen this show on Broadway and around the world, and your production was the best I have ever seen or heard.”; and I think Beauty and the Beast will inspire similar statements. While directing Mary Poppins, I was privileged to work very closely with our wonderful choreographer from Houston, Monroe Moore.  Before Monroe left Lubbock, we decided that he was the one to stage direct Beauty and the Beast, which he will simultaneously choreograph.  I am so pleased to have Monroe’s stunning dance steps back on our stage, and know that he will create an excellent production for our patrons.  As our 10th year and 50th production, Beauty and the Beast will be a show for all ages that mustn’t go unseen!”

The musician’s pit of the Civic Center Theatre will overflow with sound as the Moonlight Musicals Orchestra plays the work’s stunning musical score.  Dr. Ian Aipperspach will conduct the orchestra and lead the production musically.

Monroe Moore; professional stage director, resident of Houston, TX, and choreographer of the 2015 Moonlight Broadway presentation of Mary Poppins; will both stage and choreograph the production.

Janie Westendorf of Curtains Up Costume House in Iowa will design the intricate costumes. Curtains Up Costume House is costume supplier to many regional opera houses in the upper Midwest, and has previously supplied costumes for Moonlight Broadway’s Les Misérables and Mary Poppins.

Advanced students from Texas Tech Music Theatre and Lubbock Chorale will supplement the production vocally from the orchestra pit.
